Self-hosted or managed helpdesk?
Use this checklist to decide whether operating FoxDesk yourself fits your team.
FoxDesk does not replace every managed helpdesk. It trades a software subscription for responsibility over hosting and maintenance.
FoxDesk may fit when
- you already operate PHP and MySQL or MariaDB hosting,
- you need ticketing and time tracking in the same application,
- you want to inspect or modify the source,
- you prefer a license without per-agent charges,
- you can manage backups, updates, email delivery, and server security.
A managed service may fit better when
- nobody on the team can maintain the server,
- you need a vendor to provide uptime and recovery commitments,
- you require integrations that FoxDesk does not currently provide,
- procurement requires a contracted support agreement.
Costs to include
The FoxDesk license costs nothing. Hosting, storage, email delivery, backups, monitoring, maintenance time, and any custom development still have a cost. Compare those operating costs with a managed service using your own team size and requirements.
